Really enjoyed your article…and can see the nice girl in me too. Well, she is still there – about 50% perhaps ??- the rest has “grown out of it”. Thankfully. Not so easy to get along with a lot of people – especially family, since they are so used to you being NICE – but after the initial “hiccups” it does feel so much better, doesn’t it?
I’ll have to come by and more stories by the ex-nice-girl …but what does the recovering asshole have to do with that? Nice or asshole – what was it / what is it?

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed my article. I agree, I experienced the same uncomfortable transition period where people in my life were adjusting to my changing. A lot of new and interesting dynamics were born, and a lot of people had to be cut. Such is life, I suppose. As for the “recovering asshole” I believe one can be an asshole and a “nice guy” simultaneously. The way I define a “nice guy” paints a picture of someone not necessarily genuinely nice being phony and bending their behaviour and decisions in order to make life easier. I was both a “nice girl” and an asshole. Thank you for allowing me to clarify š
